About the Event

God-Centered: The Spirituality and Impact of the English Puritans -- October 27-28, 2023

Mid Cities Presbyterian Church welcomes Dr. Tony Curto to the Dallas/Fort Worth Reformation Conference 2023! Dr. Curto will instruct us on the spirituality and impact of the 17th-century movement in the Church of England known as the Puritans. We will learn whether they were a religious or political movement, the nature of their beliefs and practices, and what they hoped to accomplish in their church and nation. Dr. Curto will introduce us to the Puritans's aspiration to serve the Church and develop her theology as Pastor-Theologians, focusing on the God-centeredness of the gospel they proclaimed and applied from their pulpits. We will then see how this God-centeredness is reflected in the God of salvation portrayed in Rev. John Bunyan's classic allegory, Pilgrim's Progress, which proclaimed the God-centered gospel of English Puritanism to so much of the burgeoning Western world.

  • Friday, October 27, 2023 (7:00-8:00pm) Lecture 1 | The Puritans: A Religious or Political Movement?

Dr. L. Anthony Curto served as a pastor and Christian school principal, as well as missionary in Uganda from 1995 to 2004, and he has continued to serve in Ethiopia since 2002, while also teaching as Professor of missions and apologetics at Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He is the author of Preaching in the Marketplace (1996), and a contributor to Equipping Preachers, Pastors, and Churchmen: Selected Articles by the Faculty of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Dr. Curto raised three sons with his wife of 52 years, Kathleen, who preceded him to the presence of the Lord in 2022.
